How to Size Southwest St. Clothing — Cotton vs. Polyester, Explained

Sizing streetwear can be tricky — especially when different fabrics behave differently after washing. At Southwest St., we design our pieces with specific fabrics in mind, and knowing how each one fits and moves will help you get the perfect fit every time.

Here's your simple guide to sizing at Southwest St.

Cotton Pieces — Size to Your Actual Size

Our cotton styles are made to be worn, washed, and lived in. And like all natural cotton, they will shrink slightly after the first wash.

That's not a flaw — it's intentional. We cut our cotton pieces with this in mind, so we recommend sizing to your actual size. After the first wash, the fabric will settle into its final fit and feel even better against your skin.

Cotton styles include: our essential tees, raglan long sleeves, and other 100% cotton pieces.

Care tip: Wash cold and tumble dry low to minimize shrinkage and keep your piece looking its best.

Polyester & Blended Pieces — Size Up for the Best Fit

Our polyester and blended styles (including Sorona blends) are designed for a more relaxed, comfortable fit. These fabrics don't shrink the same way cotton does, so we recommend sizing up from your usual size for that effortless, lived-in feel.

Sizing up in these pieces gives you the drop shoulder, the relaxed silhouette, and the all-day comfort that makes Southwest St. streetwear feel so good.

Polyester & blend styles include: our fleece hoodies, mock-neck sweatshirts, knitted oversize sweatshirts, and Sorona blend tees.

Quick Reference

  • 100% Cotton — Size to your actual size. Fabric will shrink slightly after first wash.
  • Polyester / Sorona Blends — Size up for a relaxed, comfortable fit.
